Treehouse Guest TeacherElements with a display of block will naturally stack on top of one another, from top of the page to the bottom. The float property pulls an element out of that natural stacking. Apply a left or right float to an element and it will re-position to that side of the page. But the float property also effects the immediately succeeding element. Instead of just stacking below on the page, it will wrap around the floated element unless you use the clear property on that element that follows the floated element. It works well with responsive design and for making text wrap neatly around an image or something.
Hope that helps. :)
