Integrating ads in relation to color

As I was watching Nick's video on Color Theory and Color Meaning, it struck me: how does one go about cohesively integrating ads on a website, if the colors used in the ads don't match or jive? I'm curious about others' thoughts and experiences.

For starters, Google Adsense allows you to customize the background and link colors of their text ads in order to better match the design of your website. Otherwise, if you're using some other ad network, you could see if they have settings to allow for ad customization or the ability to block certain ads from your site.

And lastly, if you're hosting the ads yourself without a network: let's say someone pays you X amount of money to display an image on your website for a month, you could ask them to redesign their ad in order to better fit your website.

But for the most part, you're more or less stuck with the ads you're given.

Just another reason to spare your site users the bother of ads.
