Java

IntelliJ IDEA and Android Studio

I am not understanding why in the Local Development Java Course Craig Dennis said using IntelliJ will be easy when you migrate over to Android Studio?

I do not understand because I am going through the Building a Simple Android App Course and they are using a whole separate IDE called Android Studio that has nothing to do with IntelliJ. How is this easier, wouldn't I have to install a whole separate application named "Android Studio"?

Hi Lucas!

If you are just going to be writing general Java applications such as web apps or desktop software then you will either want to be using Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA; I prefer IntelliJ.

However, if you are looking to write Android apps then you will want to download Android Studio which is the official IDE for writing and running Android Applications.

You can write Android Apps in programs like Eclipse and IntelliJ but for the most complete experience you will want to go with Android Studio.

I hope this helped you out, if you need any more help then don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the response, so I guess I wont be needing IntelliJ because I will only be using Java to write android apps for now. Then I guess i'll delete IntelliJ as it will serve me no purpose.

Thanks Luke.

Yeah, if you are only going to be writing Android Apps then you shouldn't really need IntelliJ! Android Studio is really a great IDE as well so I am sure you will have a good time with it!

Glad I managed to help you out.
