JavaScript Angular Basics Setting Up an Angular Application Why Angular 2?

Is the Angular Basics course useful for learning Angular 4?

Since this course teaches Angular 2, I'm wondering if it is still useful for learning Angular 4. Are Angular 2 and 4 similar enough?

Angular 4 is essentially an updated version of Angular 2, so this course will help. The simple way to view it is that the term AngularJS means Angular 1 & Angular refers to Angular 2+.

Is TypeScript a pre-requisite for this course if you're already familiar with JavaScript, classes, objects etc?

Typescript is not super important to learn but it is a (good to have) especially if you're learning Angular 2 or older version since it is developed in typescript from the ground up.
