369 PointsIs the "Build a Simple Ruby on Rails Application" course -- and/or Ruby on Rails out of date/obsolete?
I started this course in July 2013, dropped the ball after a couple days, and wanted to now re-start, but I'm seeing that the Rails installer advises not to install on anything new than Mac OS 10.8.
Has Ruby on Rails become obsolete? Do you have any recommendations for similar, more up-to-date code training? I'm a graphic designer and would like to learn some code. Not sure where to start. And something other than HTML or CSS. I want to learn some interesting and practical code. But for a beginner. What are my options?

20,485 PointsNot at all. The rails installer does not work on newer versions of OS X. Instead, follow the directions here:
Also, Rails is constantly being updated. The newest version 4.2.0 has many new features which are not compatible with the "Build a Simple Ruby on Rails App". That uses Rails 3.2, which is considered outdated and obsolete by Rails 4.
I suggest you do the ODOT courses here, starting with this one:

You will find around 7-8 courses denoted to that single app covering all topics in Rails. Hope that helps!
