CSS Unused CSS Stages Media Queries Device-Specific Media Queries: Part 1

Is there a reason we used: @media screen .. Instead of: @media only screen ?

I understand we use @media only screen in case older sites so not recognize the code..? correct?

Thanks!

From W3C :

The keyword ‘only’ can also be used to hide style sheets from older user agents. User agents must process media queries starting with ‘only’ as if the ‘only’ keyword was not present.
