Is this broken? why this challenge does not work?

I think i did select the element correctly (how it showed me in the link video) , can someone explain or fix this?

app.js
const inputValue= document.getElementById('linkName');
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <title>DOM Manipulation</title>
    </head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" />
    <body>
        <div id="content">
            <label>Link Name:</label>
            <input type="text" id="linkName">
            <a id="link" href="https://teamtreehouse.com"></a>
        </div>
        <script src="app.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

You need to store the VALUE of the element in the variable not the element itself.

so after you have selecter your element with document.getElementById add .value to select and store the value in the variable. Like that :

var inputValue =document.getElementById('linkName').value;
