JavaScript jQuery Basics (2014) Creating a Simple Lightbox Adding New Attribute Values with attr()

Is this step broken? I am pretty sure this is the correct code. Please help! $('.external a').attr('target', '_blank');

The error code I am getting is:

The system expects the 'target' to be set to '_blank' and not ' '.

As if it could not read that there is a text string ( '_blank' ) inside of the quotation marks.

You need a . in front of external to denote it's a class. Also, the "a" isn't necessary.

$('.external').attr('target', '_blank');

Yeah, that was a typo on my part when writting the question, but that was not the issue.

I tried both $('.external') and $('.external a')

The error I am getting is more specific.
