What is the difference between using java vs java? Why do we use javac?

Hello Fatimah,

The "c" in 'javac' stands for "compiler". This compiler takes the code that you have created in your editor and "compiles" it into a working file that java can read. Secondly, the reason we only type: 'java Example' instead of 'java Example.java' is that by typing "java" first, the only type of files that will be read are .java ---I hope this helps!
