can anyone tell me if there is software which can mimic the workspace in the "learn java" track, so i can practice when i am not online.

You would use the same commands in the command line to compile and run your code. I don't think there's a repl-type function, though.

Eclipse is also absolutely fine but you'll have slight differences to the future Java courses if you take that route. So, if you're going to continue with Treehouse's Java courses, it would make sense to use the same IDE (IntelliJ IDEA) so that the features used, and the overviews provided, match up.

That makes sense michael, wouldn't it help more if i worked with treehouse workspace as well as start learning how to apply what i learn to an actual ide i would use to properly start coding ? and if so do you reccomend eclipse ?

33,833 PointsI'm currently using IntelliJ IDEA with a java-repl plugin. Also I switched from Eclipse to Android Studio since Treehouse offers a course in Android Development.

57,712 PointsAbsolutely - when you're moving into Android development, use the tools for the job! Whilst you can probably still use Eclipse and IntelliJ IDEA, to, me, that seems pointless when Android give all their support to the Studio project. And it works very well!
For the Jaa courses, stick with IDEA, for the Android courses, use Android Studio. In other words; follow what the teachers in the videos suggest - they suggest each path for a reason.

33,833 PointsHi,
To work offline you need to install java jdk and an ide like Eclipse. But the user experience will vary, best to stay with Treehouse's workspace until you mastered Java.
