I am just not picking this up yet. I found everything else I have done so far so excellent and have really loved all the courses up until this point. I am passing the quizzes but find the videos confusing. I mean how many ways do I need to know how to get Hello World to print out. I just don't feel like I am really learning any of it. For example I just watched the video on shadowing and I still have no clue what shadowing means in Javascript. I hope at some point this course picks up or I actually start learning some Javascript. because so far this one has really been a disappointment. I would rather follow along if we were actually working toward a goal or something because this hello world, function do something stuff just all seems so pointless. I am not very far into it yet so maybe it will get better? Perhaps I just need to keep going and it will make sense at some point, I hope so.

Courses Plus Student 44,108 PointsThere was a similar discussion on the forums a couple of weeks ago. Maybe some of the info there will help you — there are a couple of alternative sources for learning JavaScript linked and I tried to offer an explanation for why this particular tutorial is the way it is.

7,849 PointsHi Tammy,
I have been having a similar experience but jumped ship at shadowing and started to do the "Build and Interactive website" project instead. So far I've found it better, I felt like I was just memorizing things in the Javascript videos for front end development.

16,790 PointsThanks for the link Dino. I will keep going and hope it kicks in at some point. Up to this point all other courses have been so helpful and I have learned allot. I may seek out some of the links in the other thread if it doesn't get better for me. I just feel like I missed a step or something even though I know I didn't. Its good to know it is not just me with this course though I was starting to feel a bit discouraged.

16,790 PointsThanks Gillian I am relieved to hear that it wasn't just me. I will check out the build an interactive website project. I feel like I would pick Javascript up better if we were learning how to apply what we are learning toward actual projects. That may come later in the Javascript foundations course though I am not sure. Perhaps a break from it onto something else is what I need too.

Treehouse TeacherTammy Dotson Check out the new AJAX Basics course -- it replaces the Build an Interactive Website project.

16,790 PointsThank you everyone you all have been so helpful. I didn't mean to come off like I was disappointed in Treehouse because I have learned so much! I would highly recommend it to anyone. I learned so much in the CSS deep dive I was amazed at what all it could do now, and the illustrator course was so well done I really felt like I had increased my skills in that program substantially. In every other course I have taken I have went off on my own to see if I could accomplish the lessons without the hand holding and have been successful, until this one. I think I will see if I can just get through this javascript foundations and then I will go redo some of your suggestions to fill in the gaps I feel like I am missing. Maybe that light bulb will go off and I will get the hang of this yet.
