2,341 PointsJob Board is Live
Since the beginning of Treehouse we've been focused on making sure that students not only learn, but that they can apply their learning by finding a job in technology. For the past few months we've been working individually with students and companies to help them connect and work together, but that process was hard and certainly isn't scalable. Now there's a better way to pair Treehouse students with jobs.
We're excited to announce that this morning we're launching our Job Board. We're working with some outstanding initial companies, many of whom already use Treehouse with their employees, to post jobs and pair those available jobs with outstanding Treehouse students. Creating a job listing couldn't be simpler for companies looking to hire a new designer or developer. For Treehouse students, scanning the job listings is just as easy. You can filter by categories, by type of position (full time or contract) and by location.
We're confident that the Job Board is easy to use and relevant, and especially want to thank Daniel Lewis and Kyle Meyer for their hard work on this project. This is just the first step in a series of plans we have relating to jobs, so keep your eyes out for more in the coming months!
Happy job hunting, and thanks for learning at Treehouse!

9,767 PointsShame you can't use a Treehouse method of applying. It just links to the general way of applying so an application ends up in the wash like all other applications.
This was a major reason that drew me to Treehouse and I'm sorry to say that it hasn't met my expectations.
What I was expecting was an apply now button that collated all your Treehouse information and sent a nice profile doc to the job with options to include any url's, CV and covering letter.
Sorry to be negative but I don't see this as anything different from a regular job board.

23,287 PointsMatthew - those are great ideas! This version of the Job Board is just the beginning. You'll see ;)
Alan Johnson
7,625 PointsAll great points, Matthew! We're working on a lot of fronts with jobs, but one thing we realized when working with partner companies was that we're not going to be able to change how they handle the application process overnight, and at present companies all handle applications in very different ways. Working with the companies and giving them maximum flexibility ensured that Treehouse students are on equal footing with other applicants when applying for positions.
We have a ton of ideas in the works for making it advantageous to be a Treehouse student when applying on the job board, and a ton of ideas around other job related features for Treehouse. I totally understand you're underwhelmed with what we've launched first, but be assured it's just the tip of the iceberg. We're focused on helping Treehouse students succeed throughout their careers, and that's something we'll never stop fighting for.

9,767 PointsHey Ryan Carson, Alan Johnson and Chris Zabaleta,
Thanks for taking my critique with such grace. I've really enjoyed being a member of treehouse so far, I think what you guys have done and are doing is absolutely perfect. I just hope that your core mission statement can stay pure. All too often I see companies get ambitious and a touch greedy and lose their core values...I know I did with a company I had in the past and it all goes wrong very quickly.
It would be great if Ryan and perhaps the likes of Andrew Chalkley could do a piece on getting a job in the USA. I dream of moving to the USA but there are so many barriers. I have instead had to resort to my next best option which is to work for myself and have started three new companies. If I had an opportunity to work for a company like Team Treehouse though, the doors would be shut and I'd be on a plane.
Work philosophy stateside is dramatically different to the UK. A four day week would be considered as the workforce striking! Company buying their staff $5,000 of kit to maximize their productivity...no chance!
I think the job board is a great step and I look forward to seeing more from it. If my plans gain traction, I hope to be placing an advert myself.
In fact, Treehouse has already introduced me to one or two people who are helping with design work to get the projects off the ground!
Thanks for everything guys...keep up the outstanding work!
Ryan Carson
23,287 PointsThanks for taking time to post Matthew Campbell :) Having lived in the UK for 12 years, I understand what you're saying. Unfortunately most companies aren't as generous and forward thinking in the UK. There definitely are some (Moo is a great example) but I'm seeing more and more companies in the UK start moving to an employee-first mentality.
I'm American, so getting a 'job' was easy here :/ But Andrew Chalkley (and Amit Bijlani and Pasan Premaratne) had to get a Visa, which was tough. We had to enlist the help of a lawyer and it was laborious and expensive :(
Matt Campbell
9,767 PointsI've given serious thought to visa's etc and while there is, on the surface, a relatively simple process, the time it takes is literally years and requires multiple applications for differing visa types as time moves on.
I noticed a new job at Treehouse, Marketing Developer. I have years of marketing experience and computer experience, added to my growing knowledge with code, thanks to Treehouse of course, I'd like to apply.
Would you accept UK applicants and consider someone from the UK who would love to move to the USA Ryan Carson? Perhaps we could open a dialogue out of the public domain?
Daniel Lewis

15,479 PointsI'm happy to see Treehouse joining Authentic Jobs as boards that feature a few remote jobs. Recently went through a couple stages of an interview, didn't go on to the next stage in part because they wanted someone in SF (I live in Sacramento, have commuted there for work before). Probably for the best.

9,621 PointsAre the roles advertised intended for Treehouse learners ('graduates'?) or is the jobs board sort of a separate service to the learning product? Some of the roles seem quite advanced for those of us who are starting out. If the jobs board is for an open audience at all levels, something like a Treehouse symbol would be great for highlighting jobs that would especially welcome applications from Treehouse learners/ graduates.
Daniel Lewis
1,437 PointsJames Page Right now, it's more of a general job board, but we had to start somewhere. As we continue to iterate, we'll be adding a LOT more value for our students. Promise :) I love your idea by the way! Cheers.

1,552 PointsAwesome! I must say the way people learn stuff and get employed is rapidly changing with the help of the internet. The traditional way of going to college and getting a degree is certainly not the best option since we have Treehouse! Well at least for computer science. It actually makes sense to learn web development through web! I mean, how else would you learn about it? Haha :D
