I'll start by saying that I really would like to work in web site development, app development, etc.
My question is, is this site alone enough to get me into those jobs? Or do I need to maybe get certifications? If so, what certs would be best? Thank you

17,730 PointsJust like Natacha said, portfolio. If you are looking for pure development jobs, they just want to see code and apps. Get a github account and start throwing tons of code up there.
I'm moving to try and pursue more development jobs and contracts and wish I had did that over the years.
Now if you are looking for more corporate jobs (cough cough, .NET) look through the job postings and just see what certifications or titles you see popping up over and over. Even then, if you can get a foot in the door, just showing them code and projects you've done will be enough.

5,095 PointsElliott, this site will help a huge amount. Coupled with the Treehouse Job Board, you have a good chance to get into the field. Natacha is correct, create a nice portfolio, get a github account, do some projects, contribute to some other projects and never stop learning.

7,651 PointsHow I can create a portfolio, if no one wants to work with me, without portfolio :-) ?

Natacha S
11,561 PointsYou don't need anyone else to build websites or web apps. If you are learning and don't have a portfolio already, then you're probably doing something wrong....start small, your own blog, an online resume with jquery, a nice personal website to show what you'have built etc...
