Did you watch the prezi presentation!!!

So it goes like this..

We as TTH students will have a new section call TEAMS withing this section teams will be created to develop real life projects like web app, phone app anything related to what we learn in TTH...

Does that clarify the IDEA

I did watch the presentation actually — I liked the sentiment. I especially liked that video with Lennon at the end. You made some valid points. It's just I'm not that clear, or sold, on the logistics, the implementation of your idea. So let's walk through it, maybe I'm missing something.

You're proposing a new Treehouse "Teams" feature that would basically be a forum where students would post project ideas and where other interested students can participate, that is collaborate. The incentive, as I understand it, is, well, "jobs, jobs, jobs" in terms of projects for one's portfolio, which would hopefully be regarded as valid work experience by potential employers.

Question 1 Doesn't GitHub already act as a platform for displaying, and collaborating, on projects? What additional benefit would Treehouse "Teams" provide?

Question 2 What kinds of projects would these have to be in order to be worth it? If the incentive for Treehouse "Teams" was simply to better one's design and coding skills, then this wouldn't be much of a concern, seeing as learning is possible even from the most rudimentary, and trivial, of projects. But, that's not the incentive being proposed here. The goal is "jobs, jobs, jobs." For that, these projects would have to be "real-world" projects, that is, they would need to contain a clear value proposition for specific customer segments. And if these projects did fill that criteria, then that begets questions of credit and compensation, which makes things a bit more complicated. So I guess the question is this: Why would Treehouse "Teams" be a better option for Portfolio work than taking on your proverbial uncle's-brother-in-law's-niece as a client and working on her, equally metaphorical, small business website?

You got a good point but let's go one by one :

Question 1 Doesn't GitHub already act as a platform for displaying, and collaborating? This is 100% true , but might be I need to add this question to the form bellow.

"Do you have a GitHub, Bitbucket or any version control account." And the visit their GitHub repos to see the real use of it.

Let's say that all students at treehouse have one but how many of us have a real project to work on. How many of us are only using GitHub to only have Some place to share code or ask for advice.

In the "Teams" section:

1-*You will be part of a team as per the slide before the Lennon video. You been part of a team means that all the work does no relay on you and if your are stuck on something a member of the team can help you finish your part of the project. Also the more you work with the team the easier and faster you can finish a project.

2-*A real project will be assigned to your team with deadlines, project specifications everything's as you where working in a company.Advantage you don't need to be like crazy looking for customers or be fighting with uncle's-brother-in-law's-niece and all your relatives, because don't think they won't ask you "when you will have my website done" some times they could be worst than a customer.

3-*Gettign into more details. New gamification will be apply to treehouse which I think will be hand on hand with the POINTS. But in this case will be apply to the team as a whole. When the project is completed each customer will be asked to provide a feedback (REVIEWS) in different aspects like how happy is he/she with the project, how likely she/he will use the team again... And so on.

4-*I mentioned to help us each other to create our own websites, but that is not only to have a "portfolio". It is also to get the right people doing the right things. You know always or almost always at school there was a lazy one in the team. So I think is someone wants to be in a team there is no space for laziness.

5-*TEAMS out of TTH think on this. After you have done a X amount of projects in TTH TEAMS you with you TEAM could get to make a web development company, or an app development company.. Or anything in which you already have the experience to be comfortable in the real world.

THIS IS NOT AN EASY IDEA TO BE IMPLEMENTED, BUT THE ONLY THING IT NEEDS IS KEEP ON GOING WITH FEEDBACK AND HOPEFULLY IMPLEMENTATION.

For the second question...

Why would Treehouse "Teams" be a better option for Portfolio work than taking on your proverbial uncle's-brother-in-law's-niece as a client and working on her, equally metaphorical, small business website?

These project won't be falling from the sky, that is for sure.

For these a logistic part has to be set lets put it like this:

Today's websites prices are around $1500 - $25000 from basic to enterprise websites, some of them going over for much more( I don't have the details for app development or others possible projects)

WAYS TO GET NEW PROJECTS.

1-*Our relatives including friends and anyone you now Word Of Mouth(WOMo), you recommend them to get their website done with a tree house TEAM. But not with you.

2-*If we(TTH and TTH COMMUNITY) set up "lead magnets" advertisement in general to get leads for websites, web app, basically all what we learn here in TTH. That will be another way of getting new PROJECTS.

3-* Do you remember the market price above, we could have a 25% down on that price, many ppl will just try it. The rest depend on us to give the Best of the solutions for the projects needs. This money will pay the leads magnets from point two as they are not free.

4-* Ideas are to be propose and considered and taking into approval and implementation.

Hope this answer your question, WAITING FOR MORE FEED BACK

interesting, count me in if this goes any further with the support team !

Looks like a viable option. Pitching for the projects could be a challenge, but the concept is pretty good.

Worth exploring.

SO another idea that comes to my mind is to help us create our own portfolio by creating our own websites...

Lets say IF I help creating a website for a TTH student I could use his/her website in my portfolio.

So let's get Started by :

Filling out this form

Post your comments and Lets be A GREAT TEAM!!!

Good idea - I'm in!

Your form requires the URL field to contain a valid email address - can you amend the validation, please?

Steve.

I think this is a great idea! I am totally in!

I'm a beginner, I've been here almost two months and I have a family members small bussiness webpage to work on - I had to write the content, make the logo.... It sucked! I wanted to focus on css and html, my skills at the time and not spend all that time creating/thinking up a logo and writing the content! I repeatedly asked for the content and for answers about what exactly was the focus point of the page etc...I got 0 clear answers and had to figure out everything by myself. Yes, that's why it's not so much fun working for your family.

ps. the family member was my husband.

Hello there,

Have you finish the website for your husband???

IF NOT, Let's start doing some testing right here Elle. If you agree with it

This is my why to apply TEAMS to your HUSBAND website... A team Let's say the Students that have fill the form where are just 6 at this exact moment. We are going to be the LEAD TEAM. I recommend you to be involve in the project, but in the client side so you won't have to be carrying with the project(and it will prevent arguments with your husband) as you are related to the "client".

Waiting for your approval to Start the process?

The steps to follow from your GO AHEAD will be the same as per How to Freelance, as we want to do it in THE TTH WAY.

Talk with your husband and let's Just do it.

Haha, Fidel Torres :)

This idea could be applicable if - the team would be doing it for free(which would be totally fine by me no matter who's page I would be working on for practice). I have the main page pretty much ready, but have been waiting for extra pictures and materials for the site. I am not satisfied with the result 100% and have been thinking of ways to make the page more fluent and cleaning up the css. Also - the page is in my native language - Estonian. We could do the webpage with two languages (english as the second one).

Also - would people be interested in just starting a project from their spare time and not doing it for a client? I had an idea of a family-centered sharing space which would be more private than facebook. I have a small nugget of concept thought out, but it would need more work. Personally I wouldn't care if the environment I would build, wouldn't make it (ok, I might cry. a lot.), but what I value the most is EXPERIENCE.

Hello again Elle,

referring to:

1-* "This idea could be applicable if - the team would be doing it for free", as far as i have check the people that have fill the form 100% have answer yes to Would you like to help other students to improve/create their website in this case you answer will be yes we will do it for free(but it does no mean that all projects are going to be for free)

2-* the page is in my native language - Estonian the page could have to languages as far as I know it could be done in PHP or even JS, but the translation will be from your part as we don't know Estonian!!!

3-* would people be interested in just starting a project from their spare time and not doing it for a client? the people which this "TEAM SECTION" is targeting, does not have clients, as they don't have a portfolio; and to many other reasons.

PD:can you share the website main page or you have it in a local machine???...

Hey, thanks for the quick reply, Fidel!

The website is here http://www.rocketehitus.ee/

All the other pages just say "under construction", since there was an event coming up and the site needed to display at least a new main page (the old page was about 2 years old but looked very outdated).

Can we set up a group in google+ ( I don't know what options there are) or somewhere else? It would be nice to bounce some ideas etc and have all the info organized better.
