jQuery functions question

Example: function ( event ) { event.preventDefaul(); }. Why do you have to set an argument inside the function, why it's not possible to just do function() { .preventDefauilt ); Someone explain it please.

:point_right: The membership operator (period ".") requires something on both sides.

Your context could include several things that have a member/method of the same name. The item on the left indicates which one's method is being called.

Also, the parameter receives a value passed to the function. Without the parameter, the function would not have access to the event object necessary to apply the method.

Neither of these are specifically jQuery issues, they are requirements of the JavaScript language itself.

Thanks for the answer.
