General Discussion

Just got my 1k mark

i am excited for my 1k mark having fun and learning a lot. I am not remembering some of the tags and some things are not sticking but i have enough to build my own website. Is this common to not retain everything? I will keep moving forword but i dont want to miss things that can help me down the road. I figure when i cant figure somthing out to just search for the answer and over time i will remember it.

Congrats! It's addicting and fun and rewarding and all manner of great things.

It's totally normal for things to not stick; there is SO MUCH to learn, and using the documentation at MDN or relevant plugin sites (like jQuery) is much more important than trying to memorize everything. As you move along it IS a good idea to revisit other things; for example, I've finished the Front End track, but I find myself having to go back to certain things to refresh, like column layouts, as it's been a dozen videos/projects since I've applied or used those things, and that's fine. Just keep at it!

Congrats!

It is totally normal to not retain everything. You'll retain the things you use the most. One of the best skills you can have as a developer/designer is to know how to look things up effectively. Some things you'll retain, for those you don't as long as you know where to look and what to look for you are fine. For HTML and CSS, I recommend getting familiar with the Mozilla Developer Network.

You may also find that helping to answer questions for other people in the forum will help you retain information as well.

Good job by the way! I'm happy to hear you're excited to keep learning. :D
