Hello,
Does anyone know if there are courses for kids on Treehouse? I want to get my son into coding, he's 10 yrs old. I know I saw the MASH program, are there any more?

Courses Plus Student 94,610 PointsHi Tony,
All of the Club courses that Joy Kesten is doing are for ages 9-14. There looks to be 4 total right now.

Also, you could try him out on some of the full courses and see if he manages to keep up!
Good luck Tony!

12,273 PointsI just signed my 8yr old up for his own account. He's been through codeacademy's html and css courses and is ready for more. I'm comfortable with my son going through any of the courses here, not just the club courses. I think tth has done a great job making all of the courses "family friendly" so to speak, and a child with the aptitude and ability should do just fine.

12,273 PointsOh, before I forget... Be patient with the signup process for signing up a child under 13. It wasn't the easiest thing to do, I kept getting an error when following the link I got on the confirmation email. Rob in the support department was great though, and got everything sorted out and my son's account up and running and linked to mine.

The club courses are meant to start you off with lots of tools in your tool belt so you can have fun and work with a lot of different and often pretty advanced code right off the bat. If he's never coded before, the HTML course is the easiest and least intimidating. However, the other three (CSS, JavaScript, and MASH) are definitely more fun and challenging.
@alicespencer absolutely to you too! I've had students down to 4th grade be really successful on Treehouse. I'm excited to hear how your 8 year old does, he sounds like he's quite advanced for his age!. Good work mom :)
Jason Anello and Luke Glazebrook as always, thanks for being so wonderfully quick in the forum - you guys rock!

28,766 PointsHey Alice Spencer how long did it take for him to complete the HTML/CSS at codeacademy? I'm trying to put together a learning plan for him.
Alice Spencer
12,273 PointsI'm not sure how many hours it took, he did it during the month of November. It's pretty basic stuff, so I'd say 2-3 hours a week, 30ish minutes at a time (that's about how long his attention span is). He has retained everything right from the beginning of the course too, which I find amazing, it took me MONTHS to be able to do that without referring to notes.
One thing we didn't do is push him to do it. He really WANTS to learn to code, right now he wants to learn Java and be able to mod Minecraft (there's a program we're getting him for the holidays that does that specifically), but he's already thinking about iOS and Android apps that we can build together.
I should mention, my husband is a software engineer, and has been in the industry for almost 25 years, so both my kids grew up hearing him talk about his job, going to work with him and being exposed to other developers.

28,766 PointsThat's so awesome! That's the exact reason my son is wanting to code. I'm actually getting into coding myself, because I work around Software Engineers and have actually wanted to for a long time now.
We got him into a program called U-code and he loved it, but it was a little too expensive for me ($200/mo). Do you mind if I ask what program that is that programs Minecraft? My company is running on Java + Groovy, so ultimately that's what I'm going to be learning.
He's had a bit of training already so this should be fine for him.
Thanks! Alice Spencer

12,273 PointsI found one from Youth Digital called Mod Design 1, Groupon has it for $149 for the program and it's got good reviews. A bit pricy, but it's a one time charge, but where it helps with a specific end goal, making a unique Minecraft mod, I figured it was worth it.
