Learning how to learn

It has taken me longer than most success stories I've read through, to learn. I have been at this for a year although only the last few months getting really focused.

I simply want to get a junior front end "welcome to web design" job. my learning goals are html, css, javascript and php. and then for myself iOS apps and wordpress.

how have many of you really wrap your heads around all this and get job ready??

I haven't yet, but then I worked on the business end, PM and BAing. I mostly want to use the mind/logic challenge of coding to keep mentally on my toes..

Plus it's nice to know what a developer has to go through to make that end product...

Side note: interesting course on learning how to learn: https://www.coursera.org/learn/learning-how-to-learn

I bring this up because there were interview of people who had trouble learning but discovered the 'tricks' and were suddenly realizing they could learn 3 or 4 languages. Or were told they couldn;t learn science and later in life became engineers

It's really about the learning curve; http://www.ted.com/talks/carol_dweck_the_power_of_believing_that_you_can_improve

Have you watched the learning how to learn videos on course era? If so, what is your opinion of them? I value anything that will make me into a more efficient and productive learner. I am in my senior year as a mechanical engineering student and I always was interested in web design and development because you can combine creativity with technicality through code. However, I just started recently and am in the crossroad if I want to continue with the web design or front-end development track. I guess I can do both but I rather learn one well than learn two half baked. If so, what would you recommend?

I took the learning how to learn course and it was very insightful, yes.

I would go with front-end development, since javascript reinforces 'coding' principles that you use in other languages. While web design is nice, coding might help more with your career in technology

Thank you for your response! I ask because your profile mentions that you have experience working in the project management aspects of IT. So, I wanted someone who worked in the industry to give me their insight.
