1,990 PointsLetter Game
Hi, I have followed the instructions for this game and came up with the following code. The output of this program is not what is expected and is printing blanks and lines equal to the number of letters in the list words! Words is a list containing all the words. Please help. Given below is my code:
import random
words = [
'blue'
'red'
'pink'
'yellow'
'white'
'black'
'orange'
'brown'
'green'
'purple'
]
while True:
start = input("press enter to start and Q to quit")
if start.lower() == 'q':
break
secret_word = random.choice(words)
bad_guesses=[]
good_guesses=[]
while len(bad_guesses) <7 and len(good_guesses)!=len(list(secret_word)):
for letter in secret_word:
if letter in good_guesses:
print(letter,end='')
else:
print('_',end='')
print('')
print("Strikes:{}/7".format(len(bad_guesses)))
print('')
guess=input("guess your letter ").lower()
if len(guess)!=1:
print("You can only guess one letter at a time")
continue
elif guess in bad_guesses or guess in good_guesses:
print("You have already guessed that letter")
continue
elif not guess.isalpha():
print("you can only guess letters")
continue
if guess in secret_word:
good_guesses.append(guess)
if len(good_guesses) == len(list(secret_word)):
print("You win!The word was {}".format(secret_word))
break
else:
bad_guesses.append(guess)
else:
print("you did not guess it!My secret word was{}".format(secret_word))

Treehouse Moderator 68,425 PointsHi Sravya, there was a syntax error and two flow control errors needed to be be fixed. See "Fixed" in code below". Post back if you have more questions.
import random
# Fixed: added commas after words, otherwise becomes one long string
words = [
'blue',
'red',
'pink',
'yellow',
'white',
'black',
'orange',
'brown',
'green',
'purple',
]
while True:
start = input("press enter to start and Q to quit")
if start.lower() == 'q':
break
secret_word = random.choice(words)
bad_guesses = []
good_guesses = []
while len(bad_guesses) < 7 and len(good_guesses) != len(list(secret_word)):
for letter in secret_word:
if letter in good_guesses:
print(letter, end='')
else:
print('_', end='')
print('')
print("Strikes:{}/7".format(len(bad_guesses)))
print('')
guess = input("guess your letter ").lower()
if len(guess) != 1:
print("You can only guess one letter at a time")
continue
elif guess in bad_guesses or guess in good_guesses:
print("You have already guessed that letter")
continue
elif not guess.isalpha():
print("you can only guess letters")
continue
if guess in secret_word:
good_guesses.append(guess)
if len(good_guesses) == len(list(secret_word)):
print("You win!The word was {}".format(secret_word))
break
# Fixed: <-- unindent 'else' to match 'if guess...'
else:
bad_guesses.append(guess)
# Fixed: --> indent 'else' to mach 'while len(....'
else:
# Fixed: Added space after 'was'
print("you did not guess it!My secret word was {}".format(secret_word))
