Linking other websites as references - Standarts/Policies

Hi guys!

So I'm on my first web project as a Freelance and come up with this issue: My client wants to link an external site of a university study as an argument for his product being a quality product. I'm trying to figure out if this is an okay thing to do. Should we ask for permission from the university to quote their study? Notify them in any way?

This is the reference my client wants to use : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2575506/

Don't hesitate if you need more info to answer my question, I'm not sure if I'm being clear.. Thanks in advance

Let me first state that I am not a lawyer and therefore cannot provide an absolute answer, but from reading on this, it seems that most websites do not have an issue with using content that is sited. I would check out that website's disclaimers and copyright policies to see if they have any issues with deep links (links that bypass the index page) and (if anything other than a text link is used) does not require additional coding properties... All-in-all, if you are unsure about using that website's content, it is usually best to just ask for permission... Hope this helps!

Thank you John! That confirms what I thought :)

You're welcome Alexanne! Glad I could help you out! :)
