I would suggest the book "Essential Elements of Brand Identity" by Curt Wozniak

When you are designing the logo you must keep the elements of the brand in mind. You need to define the brand and then make sure that the elements of the logo (colors, typefaces, style, artwork, etc) support that definition. If your logo does not support the brand then it confuses the audience/users and people will then go somewhere else. So keep these things in mind when designing a logo. As long as it fits this, there is no right or wrong and every designer approaches a logo design differently.

Think about it. A logo is something that describes your business or brand. It gives a name, a image, colors that people recognize. That is a logo.

A brand is more than that. A brand is the feeling that people or your customers couple with your brand. A brand is the experience that people have. The service you offer, the price level, product quallity.

For example. Coca Cola is a brand. It makes great cola, special taste. It links itself with being cool, hip and modern. It also gives the feeling of being together with family (remember the christmas add campaign (with the big trucks)? The Logo are just the white words with the special type style, and the red background.

I think that is a personal opinion. I think that the Logo is part of the brand. So yes, sure it needs to match with the brand, because it is part of the brand. If your have a company that sells cute t-shirts with baby kittens on it. Your logo should be probably not be a Grimm Reaper with a big sword standing in a valley of bones.

I agree. Let me put my question this way. Shall we focus on the brand while designing its logo?If yes then why yes, if no then why no.

Well first to design a brand you need first to decide what your audience will be what emotion you want to convey for example you won't use a baby pink for a construction company. Colors like blue makes it "professional" bussiness like. For example if you look at the Pink Ribbon brand for breast capaign awareness the use the ribbon to show the support but its also what people look for in that brand this is why designing a brand has component typography message looks logo

Your logo will come easly while you design your brand because all of the elements will come together as the mix of your brand

for example your skills or the services or the satisfaction you give to your clients is what defines your brand...and your face, or appearance or name is your logo.......for example jordan brands...the service of the brand is producing sports and street wear while creating a feeling of competitiveness for those who are wearing it(the clients)...the logo is jordan in mid air with the ball in his hand. plus JORDAN michael's surname..i hope i was clear..thanks
