Loneliness and learning to code

Hey guys,

Had a few thoughts swirling my mind recently as I'm learning Rails. I feel incredibly lonely and isolated learning this stuff. I'm yearning for more interaction with peers around my similar skill level or a bit ahead.

Have any of you been feeling this? I know going on the Treehouse forums is a good coping mechanism, but it just doesn't quite do it for me compared to face to face interaction.

One of the things I've been doing is connecting with the Coding schools here in Toronto, namely Bitmaker Labs and BrainStation. I'm friends with the founders of each of them and all the students there are pretty cool and open to outsiders.

I know I've written about my experiences before but sometimes life happens and you're not able to keep everything up.

I'd love to be able to join one of these schools eventually, but they can be cost prohibitive and I'm not in the financial situation (despite available financing.. I don't like debt) to dive in.

What are you guys doing to keep the momentum going while you're learning?

Check out Thinkful it's an online bootcamp, it costs $300/month and comes with a 1-on-1 mentor and cohort of students to interact with online.

Same here, i'm learning java for android and I've been looking around for internships but most require years of experience or a bachelors in computer science and i'm only 35 credits into a community college. But right now what i really need is a mentor or a group willing to create a project and learn together. As of right now iv'e just been searching through the web for tutorials and buying books, but it's a lot better when you have another mind to work with.

I've recently read about some websites that aim at pairing people who want to learn to code:

http://www.pairprogramwith.me/ , http://rubypair.com/ and http://letspair.net/

They don't seem to be too active though, so I'm also a lone developer-to-be right now. I joined a private Rails project on GitHub, but the code complexity overwhelms me at the moment.
