Looking to develop skills and gain employment as a Ruby on Rails Programmer

I am on Treehouse in order to develop coding, programming and design skills. What can I do to continue to develop skills to that point to where I can build intricate websites that are aesthetically pleasing. Also Should I pursue and certification in web development/web design? Seeking and and all advice! Thanks.

I would keep doing tutorials online, and get a mentor you can meet with in person preferably. Keep building your own web app ideas build a decent portfolio and youll be hired before you know it

Hello Drew,

Treehouse Tracks are perfect for getting started on a path to learn what you need to accomplish the overall Track objective. If you want to be a Ruby on Rails developer with some web design, I would start down the Rails Development Track and then visit the Web Design Track.

When you have an idea for a site or app, just start building it from what you know. If you hit an area you're not familiar with, check the tracks or the library to learn more about it and move on. There'a a better change you'll retain the information you need when it is being applied to a project that really means something to you. To me, the idea or product is more important than the technology used. Use the best tool for the job at hand.

Most importantly, don't give up! Here at Treehouse we're always ready and willing to help when we can.

I hope this helps.

At some point run through this tut: http://www.railstutorial.org/book

Thanks guys I have noted some tools to use with treehouse and they include some books on Ruby and Rails (including the one above), railscast, lynda.com, and Rails on Zombies. Do I need to take any other measure in addition to my Treehouse curriculum.
