Method won't return hash

As you can see in the code, I tried to create a method that returns a hash. This code returns an error, but doesn't specify what it is. Can anyone take a look at this and see what I've done wrong? Surely I overlooked something...

shopping_list.rb
def create_shopping_list
  hash = { "name" => name, "item" => Array.new }
  return hash
end

I figured out the problem.

def create_shopping_list
  hash = { "item" => "Guitar", "color" => "Red" }
  return hash
end

The challenge didn't like the "Array.new," but when I replaced it with a string, it worked just fine. Which is odd, considering that the hash is still valid.
