Ruby Ruby Basics (Retired) Ruby Methods Method Arguments: Part 2

Methods

Methods: During a coding challenge where it is telling me to create a method(s). It moves me to the next one but says the previous challenge is incorrect. Any idea why this would happen or what I can do more/better?

method.rb
def subtract (y, z)
  puts y - z
end
subtract(5, 4)

def multiply (l, m)
  puts l * m
end
multiply(5 * 4)

OK, there's two ways of fixing your program in my perspective, and you can do either:

  • Remove the function calls (the challenge excepts you to do so, but it also does this itself)
OR...
  • If you want to keep the function calls, you can replace the asterisk (the * character is an asterisk) with a comma. Remember: You need to pass in two arguments and not one! (The 5 * 4 evaluates to one value, 20.)

I hope this helps :grin:

Keep coding! :sparkles: :+1: :sparkles:
