This code works in Workspaces. Any idea what the error means. For convenience, I've copy and pasted the question and error message below: "In the previous challenge, we wrote a method that returned the remainder of two arguments when divided. That's cool, but it would be nicer if the method returned the remainder in a nice full sentence. Use string interpolation to return the remainder inside the sentence “The remainder of a divided by b is c.” where a is your “a” variable, b is your “b” variable, and c is the value of a % b. Bummer! Something doesn't look quite right. Double check your spelling & punctuation"

  puts "Dividing #{a} and #{b}"
  puts a / b 
  return "The remainder of #{a} divided by #{b} is #{a % b}"

mod(4, 2)

There are a couple issues:

  • You are explicitly calling the function. The code challenge never asked you to call the function, it only asked to define the function.
  • You are printing two messages that the challenge never asked you to print.
  • This is very minor, but even if you fix the above it won't pass because you are missing an extra period at the end of the string your returning.

Thanks. It was the period?. What's the difference between calling a function and defining a function?

Defining a function is kind of like assigning a variable to a value, expect you are "assigning a block of code to a name".

Calling a function is kind of like accessing the value of the variable, except you are executing (running the code inside) the function.
