Move on or do more excersises first?

Hi everyone,

I am following the PHP development track, and have complete the first two courses. (HTML:build a basic website and HTML: Deep dive) I understand the courses completely but being a perfectionist I don't know if I have enough feeling for it yet to advance to the next course.

Should I practise more before moving on, or should I just move on finish the whole track and practise when I have seen all the theory?

Bonus question: Where can I find good excersises to actively practise my coding skills?

Thanks in advance!

Jeroen

Hi, Personally I would keep going and try to get some live or practice work on the side. I guess you could go through the courses fully but not really solidify your understanding until you apply it in more than a few situations. I have a decent understanding of web design but I'm going through the lot from start to finish, just to refresh memory and keep all my files for future reference. I think only when you jump into real world problem solving the learning will sink in properly. I would ask a few mates if they want a website, even if it's just an interactive photo gallery for their FB pics, or a practice online store for your mothers pastries or whatever... I'm doing Treehouse and then doing projects on the side without referring to notes or videos etc [well, trying!]. Working on memory really helps.

Might also be a good idea to give a local agency a ring and ask if you can have a crack at one of their jobs. Not to submit but just to walk away with and try out. There was one or two while I was at college helped by letting me do their briefs, which I didn't take back to them but just used them as a learning process and submitted them to competitions.
