Hi guys.
Just finished the first "how to build a website" part of the Web Designer track and now want to get going with either PHP or Ruby... but it seems like I need to go through a lot of the same stuff again in order to get to new content. Is this really the case? or can I somehow "get credit" for having done a lot of the basic stuff and then just move on to the new topics?

Like Adam said, I also think you should continue on the Web Design track before moving forward to PHP/RoR. At the very least I would recommend completing "Deep Dive: HTML" and "Deep Dive: CSS Foundations". The deep dives cover a lot of HTML/CSS that you weren't exposed to in the first project and go further in depth regarding the material you learned already.
Good luck whatever path you choose to take!

13,257 PointsAgree with Adam and whoswho. I knew many things regarding HTML and CSS before coming to Treehouse. I have also made few websites before. But this Web Design track (a whole of it, with HTML, CSS, JS, Photoshop, Illustrator, Business and SEO) was useful for me. This track tidied up, systematized and expanded my knowledge. Novice or Intermediate - it's worth to pass this course.

1,995 PointsHI guys, thanks for providing your input. I will keep pushing web design, from a code perspective, but dont see myself using any of the image / illustration based applications (I have a friend doing that). Have a great weekend

Courses Plus Student 94,610 PointsYou may want to switch to the front end development track then if you will primarily be doing coding. This will prepare you better for moving onto the server side stuff.

Courses Plus Student 19,663 PointsI would advise you do a few more of the html/css courses before attempting to tackle RoR/PHP. Both languages will utilize a lot HTML/CSS
