General Discussion

Moving over from database to static CMS systems.

OK I'm wasting to much time researching different CMS options. I'm looking at static (HTML CMS) sites also.

So far highly impressed with Jekyll and Statamic in comparison to database sites such as WordPress and Expression Engine.

Trying to work out how to add Jekyll and/or Statamic to my current workflow of using Foundation 4, Hammer app for Mac and Shopify for clients requesting a store.

Has anyone done anything similar? Any tips? If not I'm guessing I'll be posting my findings :P

I was highly influenced to check out alternatives to WordPress after reading this post - http://www.zachalbert.com/rapid-prototyping-toolbox-for-designers/

You might look into mixture.io and getkirby.com those are my two favorites for similar work.

Did you ever learn anymore about this? I like the general idea of the static CMS but really don't understand how it works in general.

I've been researching this a lot since I saw your post. Statamic looks nice but I believe its not a static site generator, rather its a CMS that uses flat files instead of a database.

Did you decided to use a static CMS?

I've used Statamic a ton and have really loved it. The guys behind it are constantly adding features and while it takes awhile to get your mind around a database built out of flat files it really works great for small shops/blog type sites. I'd love to answer any questions or pass on some of my code or walk you through some of my stuff over Skype.

That is really kind of you Tyler van der Hoeven I might take you up on that.
