MozCon 2012 Videos!

Howdy y'all!

We've had students time and time again ask us about teaching more inbound marketing and SEO (for the basics check out How to Market Your Business), and while it's certainly something we want to cover, it's not immediately next on our roadmap. Our friends at Moz are really, really good at teaching this stuff, so much so that they run one of the best conferences on inbound marketing each year, MozCon, and it seemed like a no-brainer to ask them to help out. We sent some emails, made some calls, and uploaded a ton of video (over 18 hours worth). Today we're releasing the entire video collection for MozCon 2012 to Treehouse Gold students.

In these videos you'll learn about building relationships with other companies to promote your site, building content that people want to share, optimizing your site for search engines (and real life human beings), and so much more. We're excited to be able to share these videos and put you up on the front row of MozCon 2012!

Great question! It's something we really want to cover, but we have quite a few things on our roadmap first, so there's no schedule set for when we'll be able to dive into SEO.

Wow thats fantastic! I'm a pro subscriber with Moz and I don't even get that perk! But then again, they did set me up with a great deal with Treehouse ;)

I'm speechless; this is awesome. Like Ryan said: thanks for the hustle, Alan Johnson !

Wooo! Feels like Christmas. Awesome work Alan Johnson!

Feels like this Christmas indeed; the next few days are going to be mindblowing....

The problem i see with SEO course(s) is that you have to follow up with changes often. In my opinion, a basic html course is still useful 3 years after its release, but a SEO course might not be state of the art after (half) a year or so. But it would be useful to know SEO better, so the beautiful sites that are created by all the members at treehouse are found on the internet through searches.

Would be great if you guys could get Brittan Bright from iAcquire to do a SEO Course at treehouse.

Brittan Bright: What's so special about her?

What's so special about that SEO Expert? That's sort of important to go into more detail about for others to perhaps campaign with you for that to happen.

Regarding the depreciation of learning materials

Any course can lose it's "prime relevancy" less than 6 months of its release; some sometimes less than month (or right before it's released) like with the new Angular.js charges probably caused people.

The focus of any good book/screencast is the core principles of what makes the framework, tool, or language an appealing one to adopt in the long run compared to current and upcoming alternatives towards solving particular problems.

Introductory books should tell you what problems you can best solve with what you picked up the book for, what problems it can't, and any misconceptions of what's possible and what's not with it with an explanation.

The point shouldn't be primarily to be current unless it's a book/screencast based on a specificstion that is known to be criticized, solidified, and adopted by all parties for te most part once its process of being accepted is followed.

That's the case with web standards, though lack of other browser vendors gave IE too much power. In 2003, 95% of the web used IE.

It's not fair to compare the depreciation of books based on web standards and SEO

It's not fair to compare SEO industry best practices with something like HTML5 and CSS3 as far as how learning materials for such things depreciate in value.

One main reason is the lack of competition and closed environment companies such as Google, Adobe, and other major SEO/Digital marketing companies have with their search engine or tools that experts and those dependent on such products to make a living have very little say on their incremental changes.

These companies, Google especially, dictate how often things throughout the SEO change.

Simarily, IE had that effect on web design and web development until more competition through Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera changed that.

That's why SEO best practices are updating as fast as it does because the changes by Google alone makes certain things no longer possible or dramatically reduced in efficiency compared to everything else

This is great, thank you so much!

Amazing how you did this

AGGGHHHHH too much content - brain might explode

But loving the work
