My scanned in image(which was on white paper) is showing up on a transparent layer. Image barely visible. Help Please

See if you can change the level of darkness/lightness or contrast levels when scanning the image. Alternatively you can also use photoshop to increase contrast by playing around with the Levels menu (command + L on Mac).
