Next track - PHP or Wordpress

Need some opinions.

I am through the web design track and am about to finish the front end developer track. I want to pursue a front end developer career so keep that in mind.

My plan is to finish this current front end track then move on to either PHP or Wordpress.

Which should come first because I thought I read Wordpress uses some back end code and you should have a basic knowledge of it? Is this correct?

I will do the Wordpress track because a agency I use to work for said they have a strong demand for Wordpress sites. I will also do PHP because I feel that every job description I read has PHP listed as at least a working knowledge of PHP needed for the position.

Thanks for any insight!

Joe

For sure php. The Wordpress track also includes some php courses because you do have to know php to create custome themes. If you plan on using already made themes then just do the Wordpress track but if you really want to customize and create your own themes then absolutely learn php well first.

Agreed.

Perfect! Just needed to hear it.

Thanks!

It's worth noting that front-end developers don't have anything to do with PHP as that's a backend technology. But if you want to expand out, Wordpress is a good choice as it's taking over the world.

James,

Thanks for the advice. I want to go through the PHP track because almost every front end position I've seen asks for some sort of knowledge about a back end technology and the most popular is PHP. So I figure basic knowledge of PHP won't hurt.

.. Maybe I'll like it! I came to treehouse for web design and fell in love with javascript and jquery.
