Not sure I understand the question.

How do I add the symbol and change the lastname to uppercase in the same time?? Separately doesn't work.. I struggling..

You don't need break it into 2 lines. You can assign id to userName as you did on the first line and immediately append .toUpperCase() at the end

Thanks Dmitry!! I added ... + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase(); and it did the trick.
