Java Java Objects (Retired) Creating the MVP Comparing Characters

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am getting an Error Still.

What am I doing wrong? Am I on the right track? I'm confused.

ConferenceRegistrationAssistant.java
public class ConferenceRegistrationAssistant {

  public int getLineFor(String lastName) {
    /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1
       Otherwise send them to line 2 */
    int line = 0;
    if(lastName.indexOf(0) <= 'M')
       {
        line = 0;
       } else {
    line = 1;
    }
    return line;
  }

}

You're using the indexOf() method wrong. indexOf takes a char, not an int (http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/String.html#indexOf%28int%29)

if(lastName.indexOf(0) <= 'M')
// ^ ^ you have compiler errors at these 2 points if you are using the indexOf() method

If you want to check the first letter of the string to see if it matches 'M' then you don't use indexOf(). You want to look at the this method: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/String.html#charAt%28int%29
