The problem is that the member variable (shipType) and the parameter passed in to the constructor (shipType) share the exact same name. When you have a naming conflict like that you have to use the this keyword when referring to the member variable in order to help Java distinguish it from the name of the parameter. Like this:

 public Spaceship (String shipType) {
    this.shipType = shipType;
}

Thanks alot man!

public class Spaceship { public String shipType;

public String getShipType() {
  return shipType;
}

public Spaceship (String shipType) { this.shipType = shipType; }

public Spaceship() {

shipType = "SHUTTLE"; } }
