1,765 Pointsnumber_game giving a "NameError" when trying to play again
The game runs normally, but I'm not being able to play again or close the game. This is the error I'm getting:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "number_game.py", line 36, in <module>
game()
File "number_game.py", line 29, in game
play_again = input("Do you want to play again? Y/n:")
File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
NameError: name 'y' is not defined
And this is my code:
import random
def game():
secret_num = random.randint(1, 10)
guesses = []
while len(guesses) < 5:
try:
# get a number guess from the player
guess = input("Guess a number between 1 and 10. ")
guess = int(guess)
print(guess)
except ValueError:
print("{} is not a number".format(guess))
else:
# compare guess to secret number
if guess == secret_num:
print("You got it! My number was {}".format(secret_num))
break
elif guess < secret_num:
print("My number is higher than {}".format(guess))
else:
print("My number is lower than {}".format(guess))
guesses.append(guess)
else:
print("You didn't get it! My secret number was {}".format(secret_num))
play_again = input("Do you want to play again? Y/n:")
print play_again
if play_again.lower() != 'n':
game()
else:
print("Bye!")
game()
Any insights? Thank you!

10,947 PointsYou need parentheses around
play_again
on line 30, so that it is...
print(play_again)
if play_again.lower() != 'n':
game()
Other then that fix, it ran perfectly for me in Workspaces.

1,247 PointsThe problem lies with using 'input' for the play_again variable. 'Input' attempts to evaluate whatever is typed in. You type in 'y' and it looks for a variable or function named 'y' as opposed to just storing the value as a string. Since 'y' doesn't exist, a NameError occurs. Assuming this is python 2, try using 'raw_input' when looking to store user input as a string.
