Ok I know I need to get back to my training.. Can someone tell me how to get rid of index.php in a url on a joomla site?

I need to know both for 1.5 and 2.5... Here is an example on a test site of what I mean. http://hewittautoins.freedmandesigngroup.com/index.php/homeowners I changed the htaccess.txt to .htaccess, I went into the global config and did yes on rewrites then turned it off because the pages id not all show up...

I haven't worked with Joomla before, but I think you should just need to tell Joomla that to use rewrite rules. I did a quick Google search and found this:

[In Joomla 1.6] ... Go to global configuration page. Set Yes to URL rewriting. That will remove index.php. But, you have done this already. Its problem may be in .htaccess or your server set-up. source

Does that help?

Hi Randy, I did try that (global config rewrite on) The pages past home did not show up... I then went to .htaccess and tried a code change that had an embeeded redirect to a domain co. Os i backed it out and called the hosting co this am. I just got off the phone with the hosting company and they changed the .htaccess code to see if it changes. It does not show changed on the test ip. They do think it will correct as the dns propagates as I just changed the nameservers this am

I will let you know. Thanks for your help. I will go back through and read the article you linked. I need to do this on several joomla sites. ( some 1.5 some 2.5)
