Opened file displays code as text rather than the webpage

I am using chrome and sublime text 2. When I go to file/htdocs/index.php and click to open the webpage it instead opens a text version of the code in index.php

As a file it will never run in your browser as a webpage. It needs to run on a server so your url needs to start like this: localhost:maybe_a_port_number_here/index.php So, start your MAMP or Windows equivalent first and then try to view stuff.

Hi, Jack do you have your server running e.g XAMPP or MAMP?? You need to have your server running before you can view any php files, if you do, please post your code here so we can try and see what the issue is :)
