iOS Swift Functions and Optionals Optionals What is an Optional?

optional task 2 of 2. if let search = names ("Doc") error: use of unresolved identifier 'names' can't find a fix

Using the if-let statement, assign the value from the search function to a constant named result. If the name was found, use println to print out the string "Found". When calling the search function, pass it the name "Doc".

here's my code:

func search(#name: String) -> String? {
let names = ["Doc","Grumpy","Happy","Sleepy","Bashful","Sneezy","Dopey"]
    for n in names {
        if n == name {
            return n
        }
    }
return nil
}
if let search = names ("Doc")
{
    println("Found = \(Doc)")
}

if let result = search(name:"Doc") { println("Found") }

Hello. the names variable must define in public location not in for loop. or you must write like this

func search(name: String) -> String? {
    let names = ["Doc","Grumpy","Happy","Sleepy","Bashful","Sneezy","Dopey"]
    for n in names {
        if n == name {
            return n
        }
    }
    return nil
}
if let names = search("Doc")
{
    println("Found = \(names)")
}

Your code is incorrect. This is how the challenge wants you to write out the code. you need to name the constant "result". Then you need to assign it the value from the search function. The parameters should detail "name: Doc".

Please see the below correct code i've supplied.

func search(name: String) -> String? { let names = ["Doc","Grumpy","Happy","Sleepy","Bashful","Sneezy","Dopey"] for n in names { if n == name { return n } } return nil } if let result = search(name: "Doc") { println("Found") }

why passing the label name? it wasn't part of the video tutorial. I would have never guessed it :( or maybe after 100 tries
