People aren't opening my HTML emails

So I created an HTML email via the Treehouse course and it looks awesome in my opinion. So I used it on 5 different occasions. All 5 of these occasions were with Craigslist. I responded to Craigslist postings for web designers and so I sent each of the 5 posts an individual and custom email with corresponding text to suit their needs. Not one of these 5 have opened the email (according to Mail Chimp dashboard).

I'm not sure if they are going straight to SPAM folders or what...

Any ideas?

Is there something I need to put in my email HTML to avoid being thrown into SPAM folders?

When making HTML emails you also want to send a text equivalent email along with it. MailChimp has some other good tips for other things that may getting your message flagged as SPAM.

Not that it would effect the open rate of emails but you do have to also consider that most people don't expect an HTML email for direct correspondence as they're typically what you see coming from newsletters and automated systems.
