I just landed my job as a PHP dev over the summer. Honestly the phone interview had very little to do with PHP and more about how I approach problem solving and work ethic. Rarely do they actually expect you to know every function and command in PHP, rather they want to know that you have a good basic understanding of what PHP (like difference between server side and non-server side language) and a strong knowledge of programming fundamentals.
Here's a good post I found: http://www.woodstitch.com/resources/php-interview-questions.php Though honestly that post has questions that are a lot more specific than anything I ran across when looking for a job earlier this year.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks mate. Would be lovely if you can share any of the questions that you can remember from your interview please

Hi Kelvin Atawura ,

What would i say , make a portfolio with HTML/CSS , JS (if you know it) and use PHP. Use PHP to show them what you can do , like a short demonstration . Maybe make quite a lot of functionality with PHP etc.. then bring your pc if possible and show them everything you got . Thats what i think could be useful to do too. But i never had this sort of job interview so i don't know really what to expect . But as i mentioned , making portfolio and using PHP in it, i think it could be a good idea.

Hope this is useful :)

I have already illustrated my work to them but wanted to do the interview over phone so I am more than confused about the sort of questions. That they would be asking.

ummm , interview via phone? i have no idea :/ sorry , i hope somebody else will answer here too.

This has nothing to do with the question really but I'm just curious, do you know and if you like , could you share approximate salary that you will have per year as PHP developer? Im just curious because I'm looking how things stay in fields . Even though I'm not interested of getting a job and learning a language that earn the most but I'm just interested.

What sort of questions did you get asked on the face to face interview? With salary I haven't got that far yet because you get told in your interview or get a chance to ask. But l do have a rough idea for php which is around 20k+ for a junior php developer. With which language that earns the most? I would say Ruby with people I know been junior developers earning nearly 30k. It's crazy out there but then let's be honest the entrepreneurs even earn a lot more from knowing little of either languages with up to 3k a day or more in revenue.

today It was my very first time interview over on skype I was not prepare for interview with staffing. I was not except what they are going to ask me couple of questions. I told them honestly I have no experience with freelance or working with other company all i do is stay at home doing on my portfolio there are so many tutorials. youtube, treehouse, etc, I have been online school for about 7 months and showing of my portfolio what I have been learning along with github , bootstrap, php developer , laravel I can do register log in , and log out, vertication email, CRUD but i have not delpoy with laravel yet. they want me to do assement quiz in next week they told me to keep up study on php and laravel. you might take a look my porfolio to get some idea. www.van-vlymen.com
