PHP/Mysql Register and Login Page

I'm trying to find a commonly used and secure way to create a php/mysql login page with the ability to register new users as well. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I guess the first question is: are you using a framework to aid you with your project? Like Laravel, ZendFramework, etc. These frameworks usually provide tutorials that include this scenario. If you're not using a framework, chances are you should be. They save you A LOT of work in the long run, and are there to take the little tedious tasks off your hands, letting you focus on the core of the app or site you are creating. :)

no I'm not using a framework. I'm not familiar with any that can help me with this problem. The only way to learn how to implement a secure login/register system with PHP/Mysql is to use a framework?

No, of course it isn't the only way. :) Just the easiest. Here are some examples you might be able to work off of:

These are just some links that should help you get started. Remember: Google is your friend. :)

Thank You, I'll check these out. I've tried google. A lot of out dated methods showed up in the results. I'm trying to find the most recent method of implementing this system, and learn how to do it.

Ah, yes. To get more recent information in Google search results, click on Search Tools, then select an appropriate time frame. I use 1 year for decent results.
