Practice Briefs?

Hi!

I had a thought this week, maybe it would be cool to periodically set briefs from imaginary clients... This could be similar to the Easter website compo, only rather than winning physical prizes (which would get costly for you guys!) members would be gaining more applied experience and be able to put the knowledge gained in the tutorials into practice. Feedback could be fully or partly peer driven so as not to put much more strain on your resources.

I know I learn best by actually trying things out and validation from others is always a big help too!

Any thoughts?

P.S. I apologise if I don't make much sense, it's been a loooong day!

I like this idea a lot. It's one thing to go through code challenges, but having some sample briefs to go through would help to pull a lot of things together. It would even just help develop our skills in reading and interpreting briefs -- good ones, bad ones, stupid ones. etc.

Would love this!! Struggling to create imaginary briefs for myself but I need to build a little portfolio. I don't really know what's typical of a brief, plus they always end up being very within the comfort zone of what little I've learned so far..

This is a great idea!

I like this idea a lot. I'm just starting out in web design and every prospective employer or person of authority has said learn yourself and then build some sites to show employers.

Having practice briefs would be awesome.

I started getting into graphics a year and a half ago, before being tempted by web design. The one thing that I felt made it difficult was not having a direction to go in - I'd just draw whatever but was often stuck for ideas! The learning process would have been faster if I had more actual projects to work on, maybe the same would go for web

I think this is a great idea. A short brief with a few images, example text the client wants displaying etc. Kind of like the project files for Smells Like Bakin just without the code.
