Hi there Supratim,

That's unfortunate. I do sometimes experience momemtary pauses or buffering when watching a video. I'm afraid this is mainly due to the level or download/streaming speeds on your internet connection.

If you're viewing videos in HD mode, can you move down to SD (standard definition) and see if that's any better for you?

Good luck :-)

Unfortunately. There's doesn't seem to be an option to switch between the two.

But there is an alternative. On any video page if you go to the downloads tab you'll see a list of download options.

Any project files that the teacher has added

1 file version of the video in High Definition in .mp4

1 file version of the video in Standard Definition in .mp4

And a downloadable video text transscript in .srt format.

If you're still having trouble watching the videos, see if you can download the standard definition video. Once downloaded you won't have to worry about buffering or pauses, :-)

Jonathan, it kind of loses the point of it, because you can just download the HD option and see it without interruption as it is streaming from a file rather than the server.

I don't know what browser Supratim is using but, I can say that in Firefox browser once you click on the Standard definition, you are not prompted for a download but a new tab with the video starts to stream inside it. :D

It does but it's the only other option rather than streaming. You can then watching without any worries about your internet connection. It's also useful for watching back course videos once they're retired.

I'm afraid the only other options to contact your ISP about your connection.

Supratim, you can use the trick with Firefox as I mentioned / download the videos in SD as Jonathan said, and if it's still slow I suggest you contact your ISP as Jonathan adviced!

If you're running a Microsoft Windows machine, I can also give you some steps that may resolve a bit slow connectivity.

Hi Supratim,

You didn't mention what Windows you have so I will just assume it's higher than Windows XP.

Do the following:

  1. Press the Windows Key and go to the Search Box.
  2. Inside the search box type cmd and once you see it, right click on it and select Run as Administrator.
  3. Inside the command prompt, type cd/ and press Enter.
  4. Now type netsh int tcp show global and press Enter.
  5. After that, type netsh int tcp set global chimney=enabled and press Enter.
  6. Type netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal and press Enter.
  7. Type netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp and press Enter.

You can try to speed it up by flashing your DNS cache using the following:

In command prompt like in previous steps, write ipconfig /flushdns.

The steps may look difficult to follow, but are actually very easy if you write them 1 by 1. Here's an image to show you how it should look like:

Command Prompt Image

Hope this will help.

If this does not help, I'm afraid your only solution is to contact your ISP.

Hey Supratim,

I will give you whatever information you need, but you have to help me out here a bit... Which operating system are you using? (Windows 7, 8, 8.1 ,10?) Have you tried the Firefox trick?

Also, try using this command instead: set supplemental congestionprovider=ctcp

Supratim, I highly recommend for you NOT to use Edge browser, but to download a different one like Chrome or Firefox. 90% of your problems will disappear.

If after that you are still having problems, my final solution for you would be to contact help@teamtreehouse.com perhaps they will have better answers for you.
