what is the proper method of this? (String Color)

Welcome to Treehouse!

A few of things. First, you don't need the main() method here and you don't need to declare your String object as public, also you will want to name your variable mColor as it is a member variable.

Something like the following should get you through:

public class GoKart {
   String mColor = "red";
}
