Hi Carl, your CSS selector is targeting any li elements that are direct children of any ul elements that are in turn direct children of any div elements. This doesn't match the structure of the HTML, not does it actually target the a elements that you require.

      <nav>
        <ul>
          <li><a href="index.html" class="selected">Portfolio</a></li>
          <li><a href="about.html" >About</a></li>
          <li><a href="contact.html" >Contact</a></li>
        </ul>
      </nav>

What you are looking for is the a elements inside the nav element. The easiest way to do this would be to use a CSS selector that targets any a elements that are (not direct) children any nav elements. A similar approach can be used for the additional DOM selections that need to be made.

let navigationLinks = document.querySelectorAll('nav a');
