168 PointsQuestion! Help me to understand....
I don't know if learning git and github is going to be actually more efficient than not learning it. I think there is more work in trying to get things to work than cowboy coding our projects. I am going to pass on this course but good topic nonetheless. :)

There are enough people and companies out there who work with other tools like SVN or other alternatives(To be fair git is also a little bit hyped but ssshhh). Also git is fairly easy and fast to learn (especially if you use it a lot). So you can still learn it later when you really need it.

Front End Web Development Techdegree Student 16,151 PointsVersion control is pretty handy, whether it's Github or other programs. I've seen many job postings where version control systems is a requirement or preference. It's just something else to help you stand out among other job applicants if nothing else. I agree, it's a bit confusing to figure out, but I think it's worth taking the time to wrap your head around.

There are lessons in the Front End Web Development track on Git & Github. You will be able to grasp version control systems more fully when you see them (assuming you're on the Front End Web Development track). Git is used in Ubuntu Linux, & GitHub is similar, but it is a Graphic User Interface (GUI). They function the same way. You can create a free public GitHub account, but I recommend doing the lessons first before you create a GitHub account.
