Resources for learning to use PANDAS

I am taking a Coursera sequence in Data Science that focuses on the use of PANDAS. The material is very good (video lectures) but the exercises are much more difficult than what the professor demonstrates in the lectures.

Can anyone recommend a book or additional website that has models of different queries using the PANDAS module or any additional guides for someone who is trying to learn to use this tool in Python?

Thanks.

I'm by no means a Pandas expert, but I do use it at work and tend to be able to work things out by Googling - the documentation is very good.

I've done some of the DataCamp courses - it's kind of like the Treehouse of working with data in Python/R. It has quite a lot of Pandas tutorials, and the format is similar to Treehouse - a short video that covers one concept is followed by some fairly simple code challenges. I think some of their most basic courses are free so you can try it out to see if you like the format before paying for all of the content.

I've done about half of this course, and would recommend it based on what I've seen:

https://www.udemy.com/python-for-data-science-and-machine-learning-bootcamp/

The instructor is very good, and there are lots of exercises at the end of each section, ranging in difficulty. He has a video where he gives you the solutions for each section too.

As is always the case on Udemy, don't pay full price, they always have discounts available if you search around (I got this one for £10).

Finally, in terms of books, I haven't read any, but the author of Pandas himself, Wes McKinney, has written one, so that might be worth checking out. It's called 'Python for Data Analysis'. He's currently working on a 2nd edition though so it might be best to wait for that.

Hi, Nancy... if you decide to go the data science route, you may want to pursue the professional certification in this Microsoft program on Edx. If you don't want an actual digital certificate, the courses are free to audit. I've taken a couple of the courses... they don't have the gamification of treehouse (so not as fun per se) but if you're looking to start a career as a data scientist, they seem pretty solid. https://academy.microsoft.com/en-us/professional-program/data-science/

Yes, I do subscribe and I am currently doing a professional development class. More conceptual than skill-based but a credential or two like that can't hurt. I am using as many resources as I can to build knowledge and skill.

We now offer an introduction to both Pandas and NumPy in our Beginning Data Science track.

Yay! :tada:

Thank you. I found Data Camp and started a free subscription but maybe I'll upgrade. I also will check out Udemy. I am waiting on the new edition of that book.
