Why don't you need parenthesis for the return statement you created?

I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Sometimes you use () to improve readability, but otherwise, they're for forcing an order of execution to adjust for operator precedence. If they're not necessary (the operators evaluate correctly as is) and the statement isn't too complex, I'd assume you don't need them. If i'm not understanding your question correctly, can you elaborate?
