Revisions

This was an amazing series and I learned a lot!

One thing I was disappointed it different cover was the concept of revisions and the process for handling them. This is something I haven't really figured out completely yet and would love to have some insight on how you guys deal with it!

How do you incorporate revisions into your brief, quotes, project plan, timeline, communication, etc?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hi Johnny, Thanks for the question. Sorry if it wasn’t clear in the videos.

I don’t really use the word “revisions” as much since we deliver on a week-to-week schedule (called Rounds). We ship one Round per week for four weeks (total, four Rounds). Each round is an evolution and iteration of the previous. By the end of the fourth Round, there is not much beyond polish and final file delivery. This is all clear in our contract, project scope, and communication with the client.

I should also clarify that the four week delivery schedule comes after a one week — sometimes, two week — discovery and research phase. That time of learning sets us up for success and decreases the need for revisions. It’s clear to us that the more research we do, the less hard work and tough communication we have to suffer.

If you have any more questions, feel free to email me (hello@mattyow.com) for anything else. Thanks!

Hey Matt Yow,

Can you refer to where I can learn more about this "Rounds" process? I am familiar with the Sprint process that Google employs for product design, and this sounds quite similar.

Thanks!
